Starting in Jan '09, Job Search Workshops will be held every Tuesday (10:00am -11:30am) in the SER office. We will discuss such topics as:

Networking
Interviewing
Issues shared by other job seekers

Facilitators

Donna Brand: Fifteen years experience as a career counselor; employed at the Women's Center, Vienna, VA for 6 years; and operates a consulting business (Donna Brand Career Management Services) focusing on career management and corporate training; B.A., psychology; M.A., counseling member of Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress; included in Who's Who of American Women, Manchester Who's Who of Executives and Professionals; designated job expert on JustAnswer.com

Sara Friedman has an MSW from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers. She has 12 years of professional social work experience with individual, couples, and groups in a variety of settings. Ms Friedman has a year of group work training at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington and post-graduate work in psychology. In addition, she has an MPA from American University with a concentration in health care administration.

Arne Meyrow:Is a former Arlington County teacher has over 38 years of experience as a teacher and a career counselor. He has a doctorate in adult education and human resources development. His job workshop has two themes. The first provides a forum to discuss issues facing seniors who either need or want a job at this time of their lives. The second deals with the realities of finding a job in the twenty-first century. Specifically focusing on:

  • Using SER's JobLine,
  • Searching the Internet for jobs,
  • Relevant and potent Internet web sites,
  • The role of résumés and cover letters in the electronic age,
  • Key word searches,
  • What employers are looking for in employees, and How to highlight the strengths seniors bring to the workplace.

Woody Prothero: Has an MBA from the University of Chicago with a concentration in Human Resources
and Industrial Relations. He has several years of experience as a senior marketing and sales manager in the commercial finance industry. His career also includes extensive experience in interviewing, recruiting and hiring administrative, sales and marketing personnel for major corporations such as AT&T Capital, Bell Atlantic Capital and CIT.

Estelita F. Reny: Has a Master's in Social Work from the University of Hawaii. She retired as the Regional Director of Connections, a Commonwealth Catholic Charity that placed and managed children in foster care. She was an adjunct faculty member of Virginia Commonwealth University's School Of Social Work for ten years teaching graduate level courses. Ms. Reny has been a job counselor for SER for the last nine years.

Dr. Bill Sullivan has a degree in English and History from Duquesne University. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry after attending graduate school in English Literature. He taught in the Arlington Public Schools for 39 years. He was a teacher, counselor and Director of the Arlington Career Center. He has a Master's Degree in Special Education and a Doctorate Degree in Counseling and Human Development from The George Washington University. Mr. Sullivan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist in Virginia.
