What services are available to a senior job seeker? Employers who have positions to offer are entered immediately in the "Job Bank"-a list of continually updated current jobs at the SER office. Candidates are urged to review this list once a week while they are conducting a job search. SER staff will also inform job candidates of a potential match by telephone. Job counseling is provided to SER candidates at no charge. SER counselors are retired professionals who provide advice on availability of jobs in market segments, job search strategies, or interviewing techniques. A registrant may also attend group discussion sessions which are held outside SER offices. A resume preparation session is also offered to every registrant. A small additional charge applies for resume preparation.

What kinds of jobs are available to a job seeker? Jobs in over thirty categories are offered through Senior Employment Resources. These jobs range from general administrative positions to offerings such as management consulting. A list of these categories can be found by selecting "Employer" on the home page of this site.

Approximately 60 percent of applicants who register with Senior Employment Resources find jobs within three months.

How does a job seeker register with SER?

1. Fill in a submit a client registration form. Either:
a. Submit the Client Registration Form online.
b. Download a printable copy of the Client Registration Form, then mail or FAX the completed form to the SER office. Note: You will need the Adobe Reader from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

2. After you have submitted the Client Registration Form, phone the office to make an appointment for an interview. Note: An in-office interview is required before a job seeker can become registered as SER handles only jobs in Northern Virginia and nearby areas. Our counselors are volunteers who travel to SER just to do interviews. If, for some reason, you need to cancel your interview, please inform us as soon as possible so that we may reschedule your counselor.

Office hours are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. If you have a résumé bring it with you to the interview (we don't prepare one during the interview.) You will be asked to sign two additional forms at the interview, and then you are registered.
