SER Seminars

Seminars are normally held every Tuesday morning, between 10:00 am and 11:30 am, in SER’s office. These seminars are available to all actively registered clients at no cost and do not require any advance registration. At the beginning of each month, SER posts the upcoming schedule for each Tuesday on its web site, www.seniorjobs.org. Clients are advised to check the website periodically for monthly scheduling as well as for any modifications to the schedule as each month progresses. The following seminars are normally held on a monthly basis:

In addition to these regularly scheduled seminars SER does frequently hold special seminars covering other relevant job searching topics. These special seminars are also listed on SER’s web page, www.seniorjobs.org , identifying the seminar subject matter as well as the date and time the seminar is being held. Normally these special seminars will also be held in SER’s office, but under certain circumstances a seminar may be held in another non SER location. Clients are advised to carefully review the information explaining the scheduling details.

Seminar Course Content

Managing Stress While Job Searching

For job seekers who find themselves under extreme emotional stress due to a number of circumstances such as prolonged job loss, unexpected financial difficulties, family issues due to unemployment of one or more family members, or due to other issues that seem beyond their control. This seminar strives to prepare the individual to understand, identify and manage their emotional feelings, and thus help the individual to separate personal from professional issues while searching and applying for new employment.

Presentation and Interviewing Skills

For job seekers who have not had to apply for a new job in many years and for job seekers who find themselves in the position of having to apply for jobs in different fields or vocations. This seminar covers basic written and personal presentation skills, as well as interviewing techniques, to prepare them to effectively present themselves to prospective employers.

Job Searching on the Internet

This seminar is intended to help job seekers who can use a computer, but have no, or limited, experience using the computer to access and utilize the Internet as a job searching resource. It focuses on introducing job seekers to the resources available on the Internet for job searching, professional networking, and corporate employment application procedures. It provides job seekers with the essential skills necessary to conduct a successful job search in today’s Internet based environment.

Evaluating Your Skills

For job seekers who are in the position of having to find employment in a new industry or career field because there are no longer any employment opportunities in their existing vocation or profession. This seminar helps job seekers to evaluate their existing skills and further helps them identify how these skills and experiences may apply in other industries or vocations.
